Feel Like Complaining

This past weekend my family went to my hometown to the 40th annual Odessa Deutschesfest. We swung through town a year ago but haven't been back to the Fest in many years. The Fest used to bring in close to 100,000 people during the weekend but for many years the attendance has gone down significantly. I think what draws in the most people is the Beer Garden. But since my mom doesn't live there anymore, we have no place to stay and don't even bother going in. The parade starts at 10:00 so in order to get there early to park we had to leave home by 8:00 am. It was raining when we left but by the time we had the chairs set up in a prime spot, it was 75 and sunny. The parade route used to be 5 or more layers deep but this time there was barely one layer. During a small town parade you will see the usual floats, marching bands, old cars, bikers, horses, Shriners, and pooper scoopers. I realize I have a new camera but I didn't put a whole lot of effort into these shots so...

While I was on vacation and surfing through blogs I found a link to a site where you can turn your blog into a book . I thought that was a great idea. You can choose your design for the book, cover photo, any dedication, title and whether you want hard or soft cover. You can even choose the range of posts you want and if you want the comments added or not. The cost is figured by the amount of pages you have. I did a trial run on just the first year of my blog and it would cost around $31.00 bucks. I told my husband about it and he said "Why would anyone want to do that?" Well I guess I'm vain enough to do it. When I get old and feeble and either give up my blog or delete it, I will be able to read it and think, "Damn, I was funny ." I would only get one copy-for myself. I surely couldn't give them to family and acquaintances because I write about them. It wouldn't make very good gifts for Christmas. I have always heard that when you get older your taste buds kind of don't work anymore and you can't really taste good food like you used to. But I didn't think it would happen so soon. I've probably noticed it the last year or so. My once favorite foods are tasting so blah. Popcorn, my dinner staple on Friday nights for the past umpteen years just doesn't have the same flavor, even with butter. I'm salting and spicing up my foods more because I can't really taste them. Last week I made chicken fajitas and it tasted like crap. I kept adding cumin, chili powder, more cumin and chili powder. It still tasted like carpet. WTH! I sent my little one off to school today. My little one being a 15 year old Sophomore in high school. But every year no matter how old she is, it still feels like Kindergarten. She still tolerates first day of school pictures so I was able to get two this year before my batteries died. She's growing up and it's sometimes hard to let go of that Kindergarten girl who wasn't even as tall as the fence way back then. I miss that little girl but enjoy the mature young lady she has grown into. I can see her roll her eyes at me sometimes, like I am the dumbest person in the world and don't have a clue of what she's going through. I love to tease her about all sorts of things and it bugs the heck out of her. A friend of hers was over the other day and said if I teased her, it meant that I loved her. Smart boy, he is. He asked her if I told her every night that I loved her, and when she said yes, he said she was lucky.  So hopefully when she is older and wiser herself...
