Just Fungi
Ever since we layed down cardboard, sawdust, wood chips, and various layers of compost, we've had a plethora of fungi pop up. I wish I had started taking pictures last fall when it started because there have been so many different types. What's fun is that they pop up literally overnight. One of the reasons we covered the lawn is because of Fairy Ring. In lawns mushrooms are bad, but in rich garden soil they're great. I loved this one, it was dry and looked like it was turned inside out. When I decided I better take it out of the rock garden, it was a big blob of goo. Mushrooms are weird; and no I didn't try to eat any. I saved the best for last. This is called Dog Vomit Slime Mold. I had seen it mentioned in a garden group I'm in and low-and-behold, it turned up a week later. Within a few days it turns brown and dries up which still looks pretty gross.
