Feel Like Complaining

Ever since we layed down cardboard, sawdust, wood chips, and various layers of compost, we've had a plethora of fungi pop up. I wish I had started taking pictures last fall when it started because there have been so many different types. What's fun is that they pop up literally overnight.  One of the reasons we covered the lawn is because of Fairy Ring. In lawns mushrooms are bad, but in rich garden soil they're great.  I loved this one, it was dry and looked like it was turned inside out. When I decided I better take it out of the rock garden, it was a big blob of goo. Mushrooms are weird; and no I didn't try to eat any. I saved the best for last. This is called Dog Vomit Slime Mold. I had seen it mentioned in a garden group I'm in and low-and-behold, it turned up a week later. Within a few days it turns brown and dries up which still looks pretty gross. Now I can watch my plants grow and check to see what new 'shrooms will be joining them. Oh, and my new rock ...

We've been kinda sorta busy. Kiya is the cutest little Corgi we watched earlier this year. We always enjoy our second visit better because we know what to expect out of a dog. We can absolutely NOT watch any animal show on TV or she will go nuts and bark. They are training her and it worked one night during a commercial but not another time, so we had to save up all of our Vet shows until she left. She also hates other dogs and walking her can be difficult. For a small dog; she has the strength of a big 'un. I had to use my waist leash to get a better hold on her. But, she loves people and I knew she would be a good candidate to take to my Mom's. It was her 89th birthday last Monday so we all went as well as my older brother and his wife. Hopefully my younger brother can make it next year. Ninety--wow! Mom doesn't like her picture being taken so I had to sneak this one in. I am done Faith is done The path is done Never in our lifetime will we do it again! This was a tough project. The first half was easier because the ground was flat and we had just dirt to work in. The other half had less dirt, more wood chips, and uneven ground. I'd rather do it right the first time than to have to tear it up so we had to work and rework an area to get it looking half way decent. There are still a few high and low areas and I can work on them as time goes by.  In total, Faith and I worked with 1080 lbs. of cement. The cost of that was 72 bucks. I'm sure we saved hundreds of dollars going this way rather than actual rock pavers; but still......a lot of work. We still need to fill in the cracks with ground cover like the first section, which is growing in nicely. In the beginning I ordered high strength concrete. I know nothing about concrete and didn't realize it was full of rocky material. I assumed it would be nice and smooth and our rainbow rocks would lo...
