Feel Like Complaining

This week I'm at Kodiak's again; it will be a long stay because they went on a cruise. We just hang out and toss the ball a lot in the hallway downstairs because it's not quite nice enough to play outside. Chico is at our house during the same exact time frame so I went home for awhile yesterday to hang out with my boys. Does Abe look a bit thinner? I think he does; Faith's been doing a good job with giving him extra play time.   At home I started my second miniature kit and finished it at Kodiak's. This one was easier because the instructions were in English and I knew what I was doing. I've already ordered my third! Faith finished hers too; I'll show you that next week. Looky here, Kden spoke too soon about her mild winter. It started snowing Tuesday night clear until Wednesday evening. Faith and I shoveled twice just to keep up and probably moved 8 inches worth. We both slept very well that night! Things have resolved with Steve (I think). Right before he dropped by to pay me, the woman who had those March days called but I didn't answer. After he left I returned her call and she had to cancel her trip. I called him because I knew he hadn't tried to get his money back yet, so his trip is back on for March.  Saturday we went to a birthday party of our neighbor, who turned 100! He still lives at home and only recently has someone coming in for a few hours in the morning to help out. He's got a big family and his kids are the same age as Tony! Someone from the family drops in almost every day and we always wave when we see them. He was pretty adamant about inviting us and we were honored to be a part of his celebration. This is how our winter has been; pretty awesome if you ask me. What little snow we had, was rained or melted away. This past weekend was darn cold though, below zero.  I'm at Steve's this long weekend and will be home tonight. I really hadn't expected to be back so soon but when he came by to pay me for my last stay, he asked if I was available. Then he asked me about my availability for the rest of Jan. up to the first of March. His wife had a airline deal for a free companion trip but the first of March was the deadline. I wrote down my availability and he said he'd be in touch. Friday morning he called and said he'd booked something from March 1 through the 4th. I said I was booked the entire first week of March, and he got upset.  He didn't say he could go into March, only saying up to the first; so that's why I didn't bother telling him about those dates. This is what I've been up to. As usual, I gather a lot of my ideas and brainstorms from Pinterest and have always loved these types of windchimes. I had a small stash of old silverware from one or both sets of grandparents but I knew I would need a lot more. Thrift stores are not what they used to be in regards to old things. They see the value and either don't have any, or they charge a higher price for them. I found a few pieces here and there; such as the spatula and pie server. They are beautiful!  The first step is drilling holes. My brother gave me an electric drill because our battery powered one just didn't have the power. It sure gives you an arm workout though! These are the first two I did and I've already improved my technique. But these two are very special. The tops (cookie/biscuit cutters)were in my grandfathers things. He may have made them but I'm not sure. The silverware was some of mine from my mom or grandma. I used the gravy ladle probably less ...

The Friday before Christmas, my nephew and his wife Jessie came to town after visiting her parents. His Dad lives in town too as well as friends they wanted to see. We were able to get together for lunch and I believe it's the only time we ever saw them without a family gathering. It was nice not having cross chatter from other people and it was a great relaxed lunch. She has had her last eye surgery to repair her bottom lid and get the last of the bullet fragments out. She had painted snowflakes on one of the eye patches she made and looked pretty darn cute. I went home Christmas day and we had a good lunch instead of dinner. We had bought some salmon, which I normally don't do because it's expensive. Faith found a recipe and even though the fish was still partially frozen, I managed to overcook it. I guess that's another reason why I don't buy it! It was great being home and I didn't look forward to going back to Steve's, although the cats were very happy....
