New And Repeat

Image
Kodiak was the other new boy that I booked before accepting repeats only He's a 6 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd; although not very miniature to me, ha. He was a tough nut to crack. Very friendly and cuddly but I just couldn't figure out what he wanted. They told me about feeding and the toys he liked but I could tell there was something else that he wanted. He kept lying by the front door, which is very common for at least a day. Finally I asked the owner what he might be wanting. Turns out, he's waiting for his dad to come home because he chases Kodiak and he loves it. Can you imagine, such a simple thing that can make a dog happy. Nellie loved that game too and I would hide behind corners to scare her and we had a great time. He was still a bit mopey but came around slowly. By the last couple of days we were playing with the ball downstairs a lot. It had snowed and was too cold to go outside. Then when it was time to leave, he wanted to come with me. Awww, it doe...

Sometimes I Lose My Shit

Image
I'd say I get along with all of my clients, even ones with little idiosyncrasies and what they expect of me. Julie the cat lady took me over the edge this past weekend though. The 5 kittens that were born the day after I was there last (over Christmas) are about 7 weeks old so they are still inside with their mama (named Robert). Robert's daughter (Jellybean) and one of her kittens are still there and 4 of Julie's own cats. The orange boy Fuzzball that she repaired the tail of, is the one she stresses about. He will come in at night but it's usually not until 9 and takes a lot of coaxing, even for them. If we could just hold the door open for an extended time it wouldn't be so bad but all 12 of the others want out! That freaks Fuzzball out when we're trying to hold the others back and he runs away. Julie got a Ring camera for the patio so she can see if he's by the door and then lets us know to try and get him in. I originally gave these drop ins (but charge...

Another Delay

Image
My eye surgery got delayed for two more weeks. They have approved the Glaucoma correction but not the lens yet. But look; this is the Hydrus Microstent that is going in my eye. I can not imagine what that is going to feel like! It will go in the Schlemm's canal which is supposed to drain the aqueous humor (liquid). If the canal is not working well due to Glaucoma, the stent widens it to lower the pressure. I am doing my best to be patient so for today I will just write about cats. I got home from Steve's last night. Even at 17 days, it didn't seem that long. They don't really have that many toys and seem bored sometimes so I brought a big piece of packing paper from home. Abe loves running through the paper. At first they just kind of stood around it, but I started using their fishing pole toys in it and even Max the older one was so excited and played more than he ever has. It's the first place they head in the morning and Oli has a certain way to ask for his poles...

Blatherings

When we have the occasional dog with us, we put their bags of food on the counter. When Abe wants his food, he will usually nibble on their bags, and I have to write an apology note to the owner. Faith gets his food from her job and saves a lot on the prescription food he eats. She got home late the other night and didn't take the bag downstairs to the closet. Look at what that big rodent did! I think he had a pre breakfast breakfast. At least it's a low calorie food but I'm not sure that's how it's supposed to be served. It is working though, I can tell he's lost some of his chunkiness.  I've had this clock of Mom's for many years and although it still ran, it was losing time. I took it to a clock shop and he said it's too old to have any available parts for it but said they could make it battery operated. Their wait time is 6 months but I left it anyway. I was very surprised when they called me after just 2 months to say it was ready. This is Mom (...
