Feel Like Complaining

We had a dogless day recently so headed downtown to visit the renovated Riverfront Park. Our park was built to host the World's Fair of 1974. The theme was environmental which prompted the city to clean the 100 acre area of railroad tracks, trestles, and warehouses. Three railroads were convinced to move and two of three towers were torn down. They kept this Great Northern clock tower which now is a Spokane icon. The fair ran for 10 months and 10 different countries had pavilions offering food, history, and entertainment. Although Spokane was the smallest city to host a world's fair, 5.2 million visitors made their way here. This was the original U.S. Pavilion, which housed an IMAX theatre and cool rides, as well as an ice skating rink later after the fair. Daisy was another new dog for us and spent a whole week. She's a 9 y/o Old English Sheepdog who pretty much sleeps all day. She has a bad leg and takes pain meds for the arthritis that has set in. She does have moments of excitement and we learned to guard our legs because she likes to take her paw of razor nails and rake them down our legs. We've never had a dog without a tail before and so when she 'wags', her entire butt wiggles. Her owners keep her coat short, maybe just because of the ease of it all. She's a pretty sweet girl and has been no trouble at all; we would love to have her back. I always know when Tony really likes a dog; he talks baby talk like he used to with Nellie. I bought the coolest leash recently; a hands free leash that goes around the waist. It's supposed to be used for people that run with their dogs but I was in hopes that it would help me to walk heavy pullers. In general too, I would love to be hands free while trying...

Benny was another new dog that stayed for a week. He's just over a year old so has lots of energy and extra to spare. He loved all of our toys and destroyed more than we've had killed off in awhile. The ones that were still mendable, I fixed and then washed. I should take a pic some time of our sad assembly of misfits. At least it will give Faith and I an excuse to go shopping for more at the thrift store. Benny was very cuddly, but also demanding. He did play pretty well by himself but it was short lived. When he wanted attention (especially when we were sitting), he would jump on the side of my chair and paw at me. When I tried to hold him back with a hand to the chest, he would wrap his arms around me to almost pin me down. Same while trying to eat dinner (yes we watch tv while eating dinner). I don't mind a dog begging with their eyes and I always give one bite of my meal with permission. But when a dog tries to climb on top of you, it's not cool. He did the same ...
