Fingers Crossed

Faith's last day of work was a week ago. One boss only said something to the effect of, 'that's sad, good thing you don't have a mortgage to pay'. The other one never spoke to her at all; in two whole weeks, nothing. That's shitty.  While she was there, she got a voicemail from another clinic she had sent her resume to. It was actually the only place. That's where a former co-worker went and he has nice things to say about working there. Her being an introvert makes her criteria very specific. She only wants to work in small clinics because she knows she would be too overwhelmed by a larger, busy, office. Maybe she just doesn't have the confidence but no matter how much we try to give 'advice', she will not bend on that. I understand though, and that's why I'd rather work for myself. It's worked out well so far! She went in for an informal interview and has two working interviews scheduled; one before vacation and one after. She doesn...

Woof, Woof, Cluck, Cluck

We have watched Dora and Peanut a few times at our house in the past. Now they are 13 and 14, and although the little Peanut is pretty perky still, Dora has trouble with her back legs.  The back steps are wooden and she's afraid of those so she has to be taken down the front steps (She also won't use a ramp). With her harness on, she can be pulled down a bit to get her going, then pulled back when she hits the bottom; it's an art. We do about a 20 minute walk in the morning, then mid day and one last one before bed. It's not really hard but still I am pretty tired by the end of the day.  Everyone in the neighborhood knows them and they stop at random houses hoping someone will come out and give them pets or treats. I feel like I'm walking little beggars, ha.  The owner has no TV, microwave, or coffee pot, so again I had to be adaptive about what I did. I'm just glad I noticed beforehand. In the summer I like lots of ice in either water or flavored drink. She has...

Inevitable Exits

The weekend of the 4th, I stayed with Murray. I always go pick up a key beforehand even though most of my clients leave one in a hiding spot; but it gives us time to catch up. I was told that Murray is a sick boy with a probable cancerous growth on one side of his face. After a couple of bloody nose episodes, an x-ray confirmed it. They didn't want to go forward with a biopsy, then invasive treatments so he has been given weeks or months to live.  He is the last of their original 4 pets I've been sitting for since the beginning and I can't imagine not being there anymore. It's my favorite place to sit and he's such a wonderful, big boy. He doesn't act any different other than occasional coughing. I will continue to spoil him with bits of chicken and hope that I will be able to see him again. His mom plants 'safe for cats' grasses for him every summer to chew on. She is a great cat mom and I feel so bad for what her and her husband are going through. Fait...

Moving A Birdhouse

Image
After our handyman got our birdhouse back up, we could tell it wouldn't last long without a proper base or cemented in a hole. It was starting to lean more by the day. Right next to it was a Lavender bush that had died over the winter. Tony decided he wanted to take that task on by digging it out. To maneuver around it, we had to move the birdhouse. We have 4 birdhouses in all and 3 of them have babies right now. For some reason, this birdhouse has had the least action over the years and although we had seen some sparrows come and go, I thought they were just building a nest. We put it under the patio with the opening toward the house. It was a tight fit, but the birds were able to get in and out. Once the bush was out, we decided to just move the birdhouse over since there was already a deep hole. Ace hardware suggested to use a product that is mixed in a bag, then you dump in the hole and it swells up and turns into a hard foam. Tony bought two just in case we would need it.  Ton...
