Waterfall Tour
Last weekend we spent two days checking out some waterfalls in Idaho/Montana. We stayed in Bonners Ferry, ID so the first 2 waterfalls were on the way there.
The first one was Snow Creek Falls. It's a total of 1.5 miles so it wasn't too bad distance wise. But the trail was narrow, with some tree roots and rocks that Tony had to navigate with his walker. We made it though and really enjoyed it (except for the mosquitos).

After a late lunch in the car we went just a few miles further to Myrtle Falls inside the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is so pretty and it was a nice drive. The trail is shorter but it seemed harder; or maybe we were just tired. Tony just used his walking stick and portable chair but the trail was just as narrow and he couldn't have used it if he wanted to. The falls itself was hard to see because the sun was in our eyes and trees were in the way, so I don't have pics of it. When we got to our room, we crashed until the next day.
This last one was my favorite! Yaak Falls is near Troy Montana and is not marked very well. There is a cut out along the road and then you have to climb like a mountain goat to get on the slabs of rock. An eastward shift of the Pacific plate forced the rocks at an angle exposing some of the oldest rock in the world. We're luck we got there when the water wasn't high or we wouldn't have been able to get down there. Tony used his walking stick and I had to direct him to the right spots to step on. On the way up I had to do a lot of pushing and pulling! Although the climb was a challenge for me too I didn't drive all that way just to sit in the car. After all that climbing, we enjoyed a nice picnic sitting on the side of the road then drove home.
