Fun times
After Sage left, we took a day off and went to a small little town near us called Medical Lake. All the years we've lived here we have never gone into town, only driven by it on the freeway. All I ever knew about the town is that it houses a mental hospital. The hospital opened in 1891 and was actually called Eastern State Hospital for the Insane. At that time, anyone who was not 'normal' ie: alcoholics, criminals, depressed, and mentally retarded were all housed together. I remember in high school we took a field trip there to a part called Lakeland Village which housed just the mentally retarded. To say the least it was creepy and depressing. But I digress, that's not why we went there.
We went to the lake and had a nice walk and a picnic. The name of the lake came from local tribes who believed the waters and mud had healing properties. The town and lake is small so it wasn't crowded. A couple of ducks are so used to having people around, they will actually come up to picnic tables for a treat. We tried to give them some healthy things like apples and cucumber; they spit them out. But potato chips they loved, so much so they took them out of our hands!
It was a nice and relaxing day and got us ready to meet our next guest, Luna. She's a 2 y/o Great Dane mix. She's big, but not as big as your standard GD. She was kind of panicky when her family left but it didn't take her long to settle in. We really enjoyed her company although she can be a bit sneaky. I had cooked some bacon and had it far back on the counter but she found it and snagged a couple pieces before I caught her. Lesson learned.
We then had Chico back for a few days. He's always a nice respite from the crazy. He had some colitis going on so slept most of the time. A little rest is always nice, for pets and their hoomans!

Funny about the ducks. Maybe they
are trying to get salt or they are
just typical munchers.
